Our Story
Hi, I am a student at the University of Hong Kong. Like many of you, I spend countless hours watching YouTube videos for my research and academic work. While working on my thesis, I found myself constantly needing to convert video content into text for citations and analysis.
The challenge was real - I tried many existing tools, but they were either too slow, produced inaccurate transcripts that needed extensive editing, or were prohibitively expensive for a student budget. I needed something that could quickly and accurately transcribe academic lectures and research presentations.
That's when I decided to build Transcriptly. What started as a personal tool soon caught the attention of my classmates. They found it helpful for their own research, and their enthusiasm convinced me to turn it into a service that everyone could use.
How It Works
Transcriptly works by directly accessing YouTube's official captions. This means we can quickly retrieve high-quality transcripts when they are available, without the need for time-consuming video processing or AI-generated transcriptions that might contain errors.
Important Note:
Our service can only provide transcripts for videos that have captions enabled by their creators. If a YouTube video does not have captions, we will not be able to generate a transcript for it.
What We Are Focusing On
Currently, we are focused on making YouTube transcripts more accessible and useful. While we are starting with direct caption access, we are actively exploring ways to enhance our service based on user needs.
Currently Available:
- • Quick access to YouTube's official captions
- • Support for multiple languages (when available)
- • Easy-to-use interface
- • Affordable pricing for students and researchers
Future Plans
We are exploring the possibility of integrating AI features based on user feedback. This could include:
- • AI-powered summarization of transcripts
- • Key points extraction
- • Translation capabilities
- • And more based on what our users need
However, we will only add features that truly benefit our users and maintain our commitment to accuracy and efficiency.
Work in Progress
We are still a work in progress, and we are honest about that. There are features we want to add and improvements we need to make. But instead of working in isolation, we want to build these improvements together with our users.
Your feedback is invaluable to us. If you encounter any issues or have ideas for improvements, please reach out. We are committed to making Transcriptly better based on real user needs and experiences.
