Service Limitations

Three Service Types

We offer three types of transcription services:

1. YouTube Standard Mode (YouTube API)

Extracts existing YouTube captions:

  • Does not generate new transcripts
  • Does not modify or edit existing captions
  • Only works for videos with available captions
  • Does not store or host video content

2. YouTube AI Mode (AI-Powered Transcription)

Generates transcripts for YouTube videos without captions:

  • Uses AI to transcribe video audio
  • Temporarily reads audio from YouTube API
  • Only works for public, accessible videos
  • Does not support private, members-only, age-restricted, or region-blocked videos
  • Audio is deleted after processing

3. File Upload AI Transcription

Generates transcripts for uploaded video/audio files:

  • Users upload their own video or audio files
  • Supports multiple formats (MP4, MP3, WAV, M4A, etc.)
  • Files are processed and converted to audio streams
  • Maximum file size: 2GB per file
  • Audio streams are retained for playback functionality
  • When users delete a transcript record, all associated content (audio stream and transcript) is permanently deleted
  • Original uploaded files are deleted immediately after processing

No Affiliation

Transcriptly is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google. We are an independent service that helps users access publicly available captions more efficiently.

Accuracy and Reliability

Standard Mode Accuracy

The accuracy and quality of transcripts depend entirely on the original captions provided by YouTube video creators. We do not:

  • Verify the accuracy of captions
  • Correct errors in captions
  • Guarantee the completeness of transcripts
  • Ensure caption availability

AI-Generated Transcript Accuracy

AI-generated transcripts (both YouTube AI Mode and File Upload) may contain errors or inaccuracies. We do not guarantee:

  • 100% accuracy of AI-generated transcripts
  • Correct spelling of names, technical terms, or specialized vocabulary
  • Accurate transcription of heavy accents or poor audio quality
  • Perfect speaker identification or separation
  • Transcription of background noise, music, or non-speech audio

Important: Always review and verify AI-generated transcripts for accuracy, especially for professional, legal, medical, or critical use cases.

Usage Responsibility

Personal Use Only

Our service is intended for personal, non-commercial use. Users are responsible for:

  • Obtaining necessary permissions for any commercial use
  • Complying with copyright laws
  • Respecting content creators' rights
  • Using transcripts appropriately and legally

Third-Party Content and Data Processing

All video content and captions remain the property of their respective owners. We do not claim any ownership or rights over:

  • Video content
  • Captions and transcripts (both original and AI-generated)
  • Channel or creator information
  • Any other YouTube-provided content

AI Processing and Data Retention

When using AI transcription services:

  • YouTube AI Mode: Temporarily reads audio from YouTube for AI processing. Audio is deleted after transcription, but the generated transcript is saved for you to access later
  • File Upload: Your uploaded files are processed and converted to audio streams for playback functionality. Original files are deleted immediately after processing
  • All audio/files are processed through third-party AI services (ElevenLabs, OpenAI Whisper)
  • Generated transcripts (from both YouTube AI Mode and File Upload) are stored on our secure servers for you to access later
  • For File Upload: Audio streams are retained as the minimum necessary data for playback
  • When you delete a transcript record, we permanently delete all associated data (audio stream and transcript) with no retention
  • We do not use your content to train AI models

Service Availability

We strive to maintain consistent service availability, but we cannot guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted service access
  • Specific response times
  • Continuous availability of any feature
  • Access to specific video transcripts

Service availability may be affected by YouTube API limitations, maintenance, or other technical factors beyond our control.

Changes to Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of our service at any time without prior notice. This includes:

  • Feature availability
  • Pricing and credit systems
  • Usage limitations
  • Service functionality
