Key Change: Starting from August 20th, 2025, our free plan will provide 10 credits per month instead of 10 credits per day.
Why This Change Is Necessary for Transcriptly?
Growing User Base and API Costs
Over the past few months, Transcriptly has experienced unprecedented growth. While we're thrilled that more people are discovering and using our transcription services, this rapid expansion has brought significant challenges.
Our daily AI API calls have increased by over 300% in the last quarter, making the costs of running our AI transcription services unsustainable. We need to ensure all users continue to receive fast, reliable transcription results.
The Reality of AI Transcription Costs
Many users don't realize that every transcription request involves OpenAI Whisper API calls for audio processing, server infrastructure for file handling and processing, bandwidth costs for file uploads and downloads, and storage costs for temporary file processing.
With our previous daily credit system, some users were consuming hundreds of credits per month, which created an unsustainable cost structure that threatened our ability to maintain service quality.
What This Means for You?
Free Plan Users
Before this change, free users could access 10 credits per day, which amounted to up to 300+ credits per month. After August 20th, free users will receive 10 credits per month. This still allows you to transcribe 10 YouTube videos of any length or 100 minutes of local files monthly.
Credit Consumption for Free Users:
- YouTube Videos: 1 credit per video (regardless of length)
- Local Files: 1 credit per 10 minutes of audio/video content
- Purpose: Designed to give you a generous trial experience with longer content
Paid Plan Users
There are no changes to your existing plans. Hobby Plan users continue to receive 1,000 credits per month, Pro Plan users maintain 3,000 credits per month, and annual subscribers continue to enjoy 50% savings.
Credit Consumption for Paid Users:
- YouTube Videos: 1 credit per video (regardless of length)
- Local Files: 1 credit per 1 minute of audio/video content
Our Credit Strategy Philosophy
We want to clarify our credit consumption design philosophy. Originally, our system was designed to consume 1 credit per 1 minute of audio/video content for all users. However, we realized that 10 credits for only 10 minutes of content might be too limited for free users to truly experience the value of Transcriptly.
That's why we've made free users 10x more generous:
- Standard Rate: 1 credit per 1 minute (our original design)
- Free User Rate: 1 credit per 10 minutes (10x more generous)
- Our Goal: To give you a better trial experience with Transcriptly
